After initial study revealed that it did not make sense to rehabilitate a beach cottage on the site, Saltonstall Architects was hired to design a new home. The massing of the house was carefully developed to minimize obstructing neighbors’ views to the adjacent harbor while still creating the volume required for the owner’s program. The exterior architecture was designed to re-interpret the character of historic homes in the dense waterfront neighborhood. The home’s interior reflects the owner’s goal of a very open floor plan with clean details and a modern kitchen. A highlight of the living area is an enclosed screen porch with a folding glass wall, expanding the space between indoor and outdoor living. Saltonstall Architects designed the custom poured concrete fireplace surround and a number of other hand-crafted interior details.
