RIVER ROAD
Saltonstall Architects redesigned and expanded this compact waterfront cottage. The design countered an existing asymmetrical gable roof form with a smaller complimenting gable, separated by a one-way pitched center roof that extends beyond the gables and becomes the entry porch. Strong contrasting exterior colors were used to emphasize the complimentary forms. A ribbon of architectural windows on the water side ties the main forms together and connects the interior to the river views. A faceted glass wall brings light to the entry from the river side of the house but maintains privacy in the master study. The project was successfully completed on a very small budget.
