SMITH NECK
This home is uniquely located on a private peninsula overlooking a picturesque estuary in Dartmouth. Upon purchasing this property, the new owners sought to update the outdated character of the existing home to suit their more modern tastes. The major renovation incorporated modifications to the exterior form, new rooflines, an entry porch, and a screened-in-porch addition with panoramic views. The interior of the existing house was gutted and redesigned to provide an open floor plan layout with large windows that take advantage of the property’s views from all rooms. Among the home’s new modern details are waterfall edge countertops, custom cabinetry, built-in beds, and locally sourced exposed oak beams. In the master suite, a walk-in closet that takes the form of a white-oak cube sits under a cathedral ceiling separating the bed from the master bathroom. While the home’s style is modern it was designed to fit comfortably within the New England residential vernacular.
