SISTERS OF SAINT MARGARET CONVENT

The Sisters of St. Margaret hired Saltonstall Architects to design a new residence on their property in Duxbury. The building massing was carefully developed to incorporate the large program requirements yet still maintain a scale consistent with the residential buildings in the neighborhood. The exterior style was inspired by other historic buildings owned by the Sisters of St. Margaret, as well as being designed to meet the guidelines of the Duxbury Historic Commission. A priority was placed on life-cycle analysis when designing building systems and materials, paying slightly more for construction to reduce long-term operations costs. Project highlights include an interior language of simplicity and calmness, a two-story interior fountain, geothermal HVAC system, and ICF foundation construction.
