Saltonstall Architects recently committed to the Climate Reality Project’s 100% Committed Campaign. The Climate Reality Southcoast Chapter is seeking to engage local corporate and non-profit partners to pledge to move their operations toward 100% renewably sourced electricity by 2030.
Having been committed to energy-efficient design, renewables, and the latest green-building techniques since our inception, it was a no-brainer for us to align our corporate mission with this grassroots project. Buildings are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, therefore, architects and other building professionals can have a significant impact on reducing emissions by creating the next generation of energy-efficient buildings. As consumers learn more about improvements to technology and declining costs, efficiency in the built environment will undoubtedly increase. Further, the idea that buying local renewable energy can generate good jobs in our area while providing a cleaner environment increases the benefits for everyone. The tipping point in favor of renewable energy is in sight with business, local governments, and non-profits leading the way.
Our initial inclination to install solar panels on our office building did not prove viable. However, we were able to go 100% renewable today by buying green power. Now we are proud to say that we are running our studio on 100% clean power.
Making a difference is as easy as a phone call to your energy supplier or for Massachusetts homeowners and businesses compare plans using the website www.energyswitchma.gov. Ask for a quote on a 100% renewable energy plan; you may be surprised how cost-effective it can be to go green. As the 100% Committed Campaign proclaims: 100% Renewable: 100% Doable!
