Drawn by the opportunity to return to New England, the clients discovered this beautiful rural property in Dartmouth and envisioned it as the site of their retirement home on the South Coast.

Saltonstall Architects developed a modern architectural language for the home that embodied the owners' vision while responding thoughtfully to the surrounding landscape of open meadows and historic stone walls. The home is organized around a central kitchen, dining, and living area, flanked by two private bedroom suites that support comfortable single-level living.

Large gable-end windows and a screened porch with an integrated retractable screening system strengthen the home's connection to the landscape, framing views and extending living spaces outdoors. A high-performance building envelope enhances energy efficiency and supports low operating costs, providing long-term comfort and sustainability for the owners in retirement.
