Saltonstall Architects collaborated with Kate Coughlin Interiors to renovate this waterfront residence, one of Marion’s premier coastal properties. The design approach centered on preserving and restoring the home’s historic character while thoughtfully modernizing its interiors to support contemporary family living.
A key component of the renovation was reimagining the kitchen wing; a series of small, compartmentalized rooms was carefully reconfigured to create a spacious, functional kitchen. In the upper levels of the home, the design transformed undersized bedrooms into more comfortable accommodations with ensuite bathrooms. The design further focused on enhancing the home’s connection to its remarkable waterfront setting through the redesign of the porch, deck, and terrace areas, creating a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Throughout the renovation, the historic building envelope was meticulously restored and upgraded to improve energy performance while honoring the architectural integrity of the original structure. The result is a home that balances historic preservation with contemporary comfort, restoring the property to its former glory for future generations.
